Archer Magazine and TØS Journal are recruiting for their new podcast WORKER, a community-led podcast centred on authentic storytelling from sex workers.

What is WORKER?

WORKER is a 6-part audio series produced by Archer and TØS Journal. WORKER invites sex workers to share experiences on our own terms, in an peer-led environment free from reductionist narratives and usual ‘scandalous’ headline-grabbing portrayals of sex work. This is about the genuine moments of our lives and experiences.

The production team will be entirely current or former sex workers. No civvies will be leading this project.

The topics of episodes will be decided collaboratively with the editorial committee, hosts, and guests. The host will change each episode, giving us the opportunity to platform a greater variety of sex worker voices.

A particular focus for WORKER will be voices from the margins: queer workers, trans workers, workers of colour, Blak workers, migrant workers, disabled workers, drug using workers, workers who are HIV positive, street-based workers, formerly incarcerated workers – any workers who experience multiple marginalisations.

These roles are paid. Exact budgets are TBC, but will be communicated with you at the earliest possible point.

• Musicians for our intro song

Eligibility

If you are a former or current sex worker, who is over 18 and who has does not currently hold a management position in a strip club, agency or brothel, then you are eligible to apply.

Due to recording taking place in the 3CR studios in Melbourne, if you are applying for the role of host or guest, you will need to be based in Melbourne.

All participants will need to be available to attend the community consultation evening in late October. This can be attended remotely or in-person in Carlton, Naarm.

Important notes on anomynity:

• Work names and/or pseudonyms are perfectly fine to use.
• You do not have to be face out to be involved, even as a guest or host. We won't capture or share any visual content unless participants have given explicit consent.
• Minor audio adjustments can be offered for workers concerned about voice recognition.

Editorial Committee

What is the purpose of an editorial committee?

The purpose of the editorial committee is to ensure that WORKER accurately represents sex workers and the diversity of the sex worker experience.

What is involved in being a member of the editorial committee?

The editorial committee provides guidance and to the producer including:

1. Assisting in the selection of podcast hosts and guests.
2. Attending a 2-hour community consultation evening where topics and editorial directions for episodes will be decided.
3. Providing feedback on final podcast episodes. This will include flagging anything you see as being socially, culturally, or linguistically problematic.

Host

What is involved in being a host of WORKER?

Hosts will be required to complete the following:

1. Attending a 2-hour community consultation evening where topics and editorial directions for episodes will be decided.
2. Prepare a list of questions which will guide the episode you will host.
3. Host ONE episode of the series. Each episode will feature two guests, will run from 30-45 minutes, and will require a 2-hour recording time commitment. Episodes will be hosted at the 3CR radio studios. In order to host episodes, you will need to be confident building rapport with guests you may be unfamiliar with and have the ability to facilitate engaging conversations. You will also be supported be producers from Archer and TØS Journal.
4. Participate in a 15-20 minute debrief after recording. During this debrief you will provide guidance to the producers and identify if there are any parts of the conversation you want to cut and what you’re favourite parts of the conversation were.
5. Review your edited episode prior to broadcast to ensure you are happy with the edited content.

Guest role

What is involved in being a guest of WORKER?

Guests will be required to complete the following:

1. Attending a 2-hour community consultation evening where topics and editorial directions for episodes will be decided.
2. Be a guest on ONE episode of the series. Each episode will feature two guests and a host, will run from 30-45 minutes, and will require a 2-hour recording time commitment. Episodes will be hosted at the 3CR radio studios. You will need to be confident engaging in conversations with community members you may not know in a recorded environment. You will also be supported be producers from Archer and TØS Journal.
3. Participate in a 15-20 minute debrief after recording. During this debrief you will provide guidance to the producers and identify if there are any parts of the conversation you want to cut and what you’re favourite parts of the conversation were.
4. Review your edited episode prior to broadcast to ensure you are happy with the edited content.

You can apply for multiple roles. We will be in contact by mid-October 2026.
